Kim + Matt Sneak Peek

Aman + Harry, Groom’s Mayian and Sangeet

Since there are so many special ceremonies in Sikh weddings, we decided to post them separately to give you a beter insight instead of clumping them into one massive post.  To view Aman’s Mayian and Sangeet click here and here

For the Mayian ceremony, the Groom sits on a wooden plank called patri while the female relatives hold a red cloth over his head.  Yellow paste made of tumeric, flour and mustard oil is rubbed on his face, arms and legs.
What follows is an evening of singing and dancing – The Sangeet.
During the Jaggo ceremony, family members dance with copper vessels called gaffers,  filled with mustard oil and held above theirs heads
And of course there are always plenty of yummy treats prepared especially for the occasion;-)

Aman + Harry, Mayian and Choora

We love photographing Ethnic Weddings!  Just when I thought I’ve seen it all, there are always slight regional variations on the same traditions that constantly keep you on your toes as a photographer.  During the Mayian ceremony, the Bride is seated on a wooden plank under a red cloth, while the female relatives rub a yellow tumeric paste on her  face, arms and legs.

Traditionally, the bride does not wear make up on this day, to emphasize her beauty on the actual wedding day,  but Aman always manages to look goergous, with or without makeup.
The special paste is made of yellow tumeric, flour and mustard oil.
During the Choora Ceremony the maternal uncles put on ivory and red bangles dipped in milk on the Bride.
And then of course we have a party until the wee hours;-)
